Özet:

The aim of this study is to analyze Murray Bookchins anthropological approach to the origins of domination and hierarchy. According to Murray Bookchin, the theorist of social ecology thought, ecological crisis is about the relationship between humans and nature which is based on domination and hierarchy. The social structure established with relations of domination and hierarchy also determines the relationship between humans and nature. Therefore, the ecological crisis is a social crisis caused by domination and hierarchy in society. Therefore, in order to solve the ecological crisis, it is first necessary to eliminate domination and hierarchy in society. For this reason, Bookchin examines the emergence and historical development of domination and hierarchy. According to Bookchin, domination and hierarchy are anthropological phenomena dating back to the prehistoric period. Domination and hierarchy, which emerged with gerontocracy and patriarchy in primitive collectivities, became institutionalized by creating status and power relations with the development of the collectivity. While Bookchins anthropological hermeneutic determines the origins of domination and hierarchy, it also reveals that domination and hierarchy are natural phenomena parallel to human evolution. Because of they are evolutionary natural phenomena, the existence and elimination of domination and hierarchy become controversial.
