Özet:

Extreme Cinema is a cinematic approach in which violence is represented in ways that challenge the viewers perceptual and psychological endurance. This tendency is characterized by explicit depictions of both physical and psychological violence, transgressions of bodily boundaries, and the creation of a disturbing atmosphere. Although the concept has manifested in different forms across various regions and historical periods, it gained a distinctive identity in France in the late 1990s. The New Extremism in French cinema emerged as a stylistic movement defined by hyper-realist narrative techniques, long-take sequences, graphic violence, and an emphasis on social critique. Films within this framework often feature highly realistic portrayals of extreme bodily and psychological suffering, destabilizing both characters and viewers. This study aims to analyze Mukavemet 2022, written and directed by Soner Caner, within the framework of New Extremism. The film was selected for its strong alignment with the aesthetic and narrative elements associated with this cinematic tendency, and because it has not been examined academically in this context. Using descriptive analysis, the film is explored under four main themes: representations of violence and the body, use of cinematography, character transformation, and social critique. The findings indicate that Mukavemet contains narrative and formal features characteristic of New Extremism. It does not merely present an individual account of violence but also reveals its broader social foundations. This study contributes to the academic discourse on New Extremism in Turkish cinema and aims to fill a gap in the literature.
