Özet:

Neşet Günal, who captures the essence of Anatolian people on his canvas, holds an important position in contemporary Turkish painting with his figure interpretations. In Günals paintings, the figures challenging living conditions draw attention both expressively and physically. The deformed and diseased representations of these figures reflect the artists narrative power. The first section of the study examines how the Anatolian peoples influence shapes Günals artistic life and the reflection of this influence in his paintings, emphasizing his artistic understanding and position in Turkish art. Subsequently, the artists approach to figurative deformities and illnesses in his paintings is attempted to be explained. The compositions emerging from the figures transformed into aesthetic forms through the artists interpretation are explored in depth. The research, structured as a documentary model, involved a literature review through the examination of national and international written and visual sources, thereby establishing a theoretical foundation. The artworks were analyzed through the application of various art criticism methods. As a result of the study, it was determined that despite Neşet Günals works being the subject of many studies, the figurative deformities and illnesses in these paintings have not been adequately addressed, and analyses were made accordingly. Evaluations of the artworks revealed that the artist, while depicting the difficult living conditions of the Anatolian people, does not solely utilize exaggerated limbs; he also incorporates bodily deformities and diseased bodies created by lifes harsh circumstances.
