Özet:

Communication studies, which developed in its early stages by drawing on the theoretical foundations of other scientific fields, has benefited not only from psychology, anthropology, sociology, and political science but also from linguistics. In communication studies, which by nature correspond to an interdisciplinary field, mass media benefit from the possibilities of language while performing their functions and at the same time reshape the language with a unique use. Language, which is the main field of study in linguistics, is also an important field of study for communication sciences due to its use in mass media. When the literature is examined, it is seen that the concept of press language and the historical development of the Turkish press language have not been discussed clearly in all its aspects. This study aims to describe the language features of print media texts from a theoretical and historical perspective in the context of Turkish print media. For this reason, descriptive analysis and document review method were used. In this research, a conceptual discussion is made on the language of the press by focusing on the language features of news articles and other text types in the written press and the periodic changes of this language from the Ottoman Empire to the Republic. The emergence of Turkish prose was shaped by the journalistic activities that began with the Tanzimat, and Şinasi in particular made significant contributions to the development of the press language during this period. The Turkish press language showed significant development with the Republican era, and this unique development continued until the 1970s. After the 1970s, the language and expression features lagged behind the progress in previous periods in terms of linguistics and literature. The proliferation of new media tools due to the influence of the internet and digitalization in the 2000s and the change in social interaction practices depending on time and space have led to the emergence of new interaction, expression and form features in the press language.
