Özet:

The phenomenon of suicide has been a subject encountered in every period of history and dealt with by many different disciplines. Suicide, which is expressed as the ending of ones own life with the effect of social and psychological reasons, has been based on various reasons and examined with many theories developed on it. In addition to the biological, psychological and social processes that cause suicide events, the impact of these events on society also constitutes an important area. The media, which plays a role in presenting suicide events to the society, plays an important role in the context of social responsibility and ethics. Media, which has created a new structure with the effect of digitalization and developments in communication technologies, is also in a new process in the presentation of suicide events. Suicide incidents are increasing in Turkey according to statistical data. Considering that the guiding effect of the media is much greater today, it becomes necessary to examine the media coverage of suicide events. There is a risk of being encouraging and guiding in the way suicide news is given. For this reason, the effect of the media on suicide events is an important area of discussion. In this study, the relationship between the phenomenon of suicide and the media is discussed through news sites. The way in which news about suicide takes place on news sites is examined in the example of news about Enes Kara suicide. An analysis is carried out in the context of the criteria presented by the World Health Organization as factors that journalists should pay attention to when reporting suicide news.
