Özet:

It is seen that beliefs and traditions are not fixed and static. Over time, as new developments and controversies arise, they are reinterpreted and redefined according to the needs that arise. Negotiations aimed at resolving emerging disputes and addressing uncertainties have also taken place in Christianity, just as they have in older religions such as Buddhism and Judaism. In the history of Christianity, divisions began in the late first century due to differences of opinion. The Council of Chalcedon was the place where these divisions were clearly and most strongly emphasized, and the decisions that emerged here were decisive in the formation of the principles of Christian belief today. In addition, the eastern and western churches were clearly separated from each other in terms of the basic principles of belief, and a political separation was also experienced, and the Mediterranean geography, which was very important for the Roman Empire, was out of the hands of the Empire in terms of religious obedience. The Council of Chalcedon is noteworthy both for its influence in shaping the principles of faith and for its political background. While preparing our article, we have benefited from various books, theses and articles written on our subject as well as basic sources and encyclopedias. First of all, general information about the councils is mentioned and the place and importance of the Council of Chalcedon among the other councils are mentioned, and then the place where it was held, who organized the sessions, the decisions taken in these sessions and the effects of the decisions are evaluated.
