Özet:

Human as a social being; constitutes the element that forms, shapes and transforms society. The close bond between man and society constitutes the main source of literature, whose material is human. When considered in this context, it is frequently used to include elements that reflect society in literary works and to examine the existence of human beings in society. After the realism movement, social realism, which reveals the classes in the society and the deep gaps between the rich and the poor, conveys the social structure that are working in the background of the plot in the fiction of literary texts to the reader. It is seen that the money that ordinary people need to live under the harsh conditions of capitalism is used like a toy in the hands of the rich class. In particular, Russian social realism examines the experiences of the little person, the difficulties experienced in earning money in order to continue living, and introduces world literature to the theme of small person. In this study, the peasant class in Yaşar Kemals Hüyükteki Nar Ağacı and Tolstoys Polikuşka will be evaluated in the context of social realism. It is noteworthy that the deep gap between the social classes in both works, the disappearance of the heroes of the novels in order to earn the money they need to live and their hopes for life after the solid reality they face. In this context, the lives of the heroes of the novels who accept that they have been defeated as a result of the disappearance of the hope that keeps people alive in the works of both authors are conveyed to the reader in a very impressive style.
