Özet:

One of the striking aspects of Refik Halid Karay, who is one of the names that left his mark on the modern Turkish novel and story with his works, is his oppositional character. The author, who stepped into the literary life with his articles published in the Servet-i Fünun newspaper, enhanced his reputation with his satirical articles published under the pen name Kirpi Hedgehog. Refik Halid spent most of his life in exile due to his opposition against the Committee of Union and Progress, and the against the National Struggle and Mustafa Kemal Atatürk. Refik Halid, who lived in exile for five years, first in Sinop, and then in Çorum, Ankara and Bilecik, went abroad in 1922 and had to live in Beirut and Aleppo until he returned home in 1938. One of the remarkable works of Refik Halid is his play Deli Mad in which his exile life is reflected as well as his prior works such as Memleket Hikâyeleri Country Stories, Sürgün Exile, Gurbet Hikâyeleri Abroad Stories. Deli, which the author wrote in Aleppo during his second exile, comes to the fore with the subject he deals with, the way these subjects are handled, and the fact that it is a counter-canonical text. Deli, which was first published as a series in the Vahdet newspaper and published as a book, focuses on the experiences of Maruf Bey and reflects transformation that Turkey had gone through over a period of about 20 years. While the author focuses on the alienation of Maruf Bey, he also expresses his personal ideas about the change of the country. In this article, firstly, the oppositional character of Refik Halid Karay will be emphasized, and then his play Deli will be evaluated in comparison with the works dealing with the similar themes.

Eserleriyle modern Türk roman ve hikâyesine damga vuran isimlerden biri olan Refik Halid Karayın dikkat çekici yönlerinden biri muhalif kimliğidir. Servet-i Fünun gazetesinde çıkan yazılarıyla edebiyat hayatına adım atan yazar, Kirpi müstearıyla yayımladığı hiciv yazılarıyla ününe ün katar.
