Özet:

This study examines the understanding of compassion towards animals in the Ottoman world of thought within the framework of Ahmet Haşims article Gurabahane-i Laklakan. The building established in Bursa and popularly known as the stork hospital is evaluated not only as a place where animals were treated, but also as a symbolic example of institutionaliza-tion that reflects the Ottoman societys view of animals. The article examines the historicity of Gurabahane-i Laklakan, the debates on whether this building was the worlds first animal hospital, and local factors such as the Bursa Haffaflar Bazaar tradesmen who supported the building. Using Ahmet Haşims text and the archival documents of the period as primary so-urces, the research seeks answers to questions about the historical reality and institutional nature of this building, evaluates the physical and symbolic meanings of the building named Gurabahane-i Laklakan, and discusses the public reflections of this institution and its per-ception today.

Bu çalışma, Osmanlı düşün dünyasında hayvanlara yönelik merhamet anlayışını Ahmet Ha-şimin Gurabahane-i Laklakan başlıklı makalesi çerçevesinde ele almaktadır.
