Özet:

Migration is an important concept that is analyzed and discussed in a different way in the field of contemporary art and is the subject of art products. Ai Wei Wei and Gülsün Karamustafa are also artists who focus on the phenomenon of migration. Both artists explored the effects of migration on individuals, the experiences of immigrants, and the social, cultural and political dimensions of migration. Ai Weiwei is a Chinese artist and activist. Immigration has been one of the concepts frequently reflected and discussed in his works. Particularly his installation The Law of Travel addressed the global refugee crisis and the problems experienced by refugees. Weiwei has sought to raise awareness about the human condition by focusing on migration issues. Gülsün Karamustafa focused on issues such as migration, identity, exile and social change in her works. Karamustafa explored experiences of the refugees, complex emotions about cultural identity and belonging, and the effects of migration on individuals. She often intertwined personal experiences, social memory and historical and cultural elements associated with migration. Both artists aimed to raise social awareness on the issue by reflecting the significant effects of migration on individuals lives, the experiences of refugees, and the complexity of migration through their art. The present study aims to focus on artistic approaches and works of Gülsün Karamustafa and Ai Weiwei, who have tackled the concept of migration. In the study, survey methodology was adopted. The study was limited to the investigation of the works by Gülsün Karamustafa and Ai Weiwei on the concept of migration. The artists considered migration a global human issue beyond individual experiences, and they reflected migration with a versatile approach in their works.
