Özet:

Gelibolulu Mustafa Âlîs Nawādir al-Hikam provides an in-depth analysis of 16th-century Ottoman societys social, cultural, and religious fabric. The treatise starkly contrasts the spiritual richness of early Islam with the intellectual decline observed during the Ottoman era. Âlî adopts a critical stance, highlighting the superficiality of the eras ulema, the moral decay within society, and pervasive political instability. In his work, Âlî critiques both the scholars and the general populace of his time, emphasizing the spiritual abundance and superior qualities of early Islamic scholars. He specifically notes that the Ottoman scholarly class had become superficial, abandoning the pursuit of profound knowledge, and that a widespread moral collapse had begun. The text meticulously explores topics such as the caliphate, the concepts of fate and lifespan, polygyny, and career choice. Âlî offers unique interpretations on these subjects, introducing fresh perspectives to Islamic thought; his views on the caliphate, in particular, add new dimensions to centuries-old debates. Beyond religious and philosophical themes, Âlî also addresses the social and cultural life of his period. Comparing the past with his own time in discussions of art, music, literature, and beauty, he laments that these values have diminished, leading society to become increasingly materialistic. Nawādir al-Hikam also reflects Âlîs personal experiences and thoughts. He critiques the injustices within his contemporary social structure, citing instances of unfair treatment and devaluation he personally endured. This work holds a significant place in Ottoman intellectual history, serving as an invaluable resource for understanding the periods cultural landscape. Furthermore, it offers a thorough exploration of various domains of Islamic thought, making substantial contributions to scholarly endeavors in the field.
