Özet:

Basin areas are the geographical units most in need of realization of rural development in terms of planning and implementation. The Erzurum Plain and Daphan Plain Basins, which are the subject of the study, have a complex structure with mountainous lands, plain areas, and plateau plains. The harsher terrestrial conditions of the basin areas, with their horizontal and vertical distance from sea level, have made the need for development a necessity rather than a choice. Environmental, social, and economic indicators need to be handled in the practices to be carried out for the development of rural areas. The study aims to analyze the rural activities of the rural population living in the Erzurum Plain and Daphan Plain Basins in the context of sustainable rural development and to determine their perceptions towards the future. The analysis study consists of 265 questionnaire forms for sustainable rural development. The surveys were conducted in 265 households selected from 78 rural settlement units located in the basin lands with a balanced distribution within the land integrity. The unsuccessful aspects of the projects, which are put into practice without fully determining the needs of the field, are an obstacle to rural development. The applied side of geography will have an important role in providing data for the identification and elimination of the negativities in the projects to be implemented for the sustainable development of rural areas.
