Özet:

Turkeys relations with the Middle East contain a series of paradoxes. Despite living together with the states in the Middle East for decades, Turkey has not been able to establish a solid, reliable, working relationship with any of them. Therefore, Turkeys historical and contemporary experience with the Middle East has been mostly negative. The main factors affecting Turkeys relations with Middle Eastern countries have generally been history, religion and the West. These factors have deeply affected Turkeys Middle East policy from past to present. When Turkeys relations with the Middle East from 1923 to the present are examined, the following graphic emerges: From 1923 to 1950, relations were established and developed; From 1950 to 1965, relations were constantly declining; There has been a relative improvement since 1965; It began to flourish again in the 1970s; In the 1980s, it developed not only in the political field, but also in the economic, commercial and military fields; In the 1990s, he was increasingly drawn into Middle Eastern problems; In the 2000s, it will be seen that it has become a part of the problems in the Middle East. However, it seems extremely difficult for Turkey to be in a real and permanent rapprochement with Arab countries. Turkey should be extremely careful in its relations with this region, which is far from peace and stability. It is not right for Turkey to stand by Arab countries unconditionally, as it was in the 1950s, nor against the Arab countries as in the 1960s, 1980s and 2000s. Turkeys place in the Middle East, where it is not possible to predict and determine the direction and time of political developments, such as the displacement of the sands in the desert, should not be next to or against the Arab countries. Turkey should be on the side of peace and its own national interests, not this or that country.
