Özet:

Background and Aims In cases where a choice has to be made between forestry and mining, the sector in which the sum of the benefits to society as a whole outweighs should be preferred. The mining sector also has impacts on the region where the activities are carried out. It is planned to include the triangle of mine, forest and people, which is frequently on the agenda of the country, in this study within the scope of Daday Forest Management Directorate. Methods In this study, mining activities carried out within the borders of Kastamonu Regional Directorate of ForestryDaday Forest Management Directorate were analyzed. The status of the areas permitted under Article 16 of the Forestry Law before mining activities, the final status of the parts where mining activities have ended and the status of the areas where mining activities are still ongoing were analyzed through satellite images. In addition to technical and scientific interventions to protect the health and sustainability of forests, permits and easement rights regulated by Article 16 of the Forestry Law, which are shown as a cause of deforestation, were evaluated in terms of public interest and superior public interest. While making this evaluation, ecological and socio-cultural functions of forests were also taken into consideration in addition to their economic functions. In order to make this evaluation from a social point of view, a survey was conducted among the people of the region. With the survey application, it was tried to determine the perception of the people of the region towards mining activities. Conclusions In the case of Daday, where the triangle of forest, mining, and people is examined, the local people believe it is more socially beneficial to keep the forest areas in their region as forests. It is understood that this belief stems from the fact that the agricultural activities they are trying to carry out with limited means in their living areas are being damaged by mining activities. Local people also report that the air dust emissions, visual, and noise pollution caused by mining activities in their living areas negatively affect their well-being.
