Özet:

This study examines the ayanship process and confiscated properties of Osman Agha, who served as the notable of Tekfurdağı Rodoscuk during irregular intervals from the end of 18th century to the beginning of 19th century. The purpose of this study is to contribute to the literature on notables with a micro study conducted specifically about Tekirdağ. Osman Aghas ayanship took place in three different phases. The first phase of Osman Aghas ayanship was between August 1793 and March 1795 when he was not engaging in an intensive activity. The second phase was between August 1798 and May 1800 and it resulted in his exile to Lesbos. After returning to Tekfurdağı, Osman Agha became an âyân of Tekfurdağı for the third time between 20 July 1802 and 6 July 1806. Osman Aghas inheritance record dated April 26, 1808, lists his confiscated properties. The value of the moveable and landed properties of Osman Agha, a former notable of Tekfurdağı, was estimated at 50,663 guruş, and his debts were recorded as equal to his estate. The paper will attempt to provide a micro-level panorama of the period in question, based on the social and economic life of Osman Agha, a notable of the Ottoman Empire in the early 19th century.
