Özet:

Protection and development of biodiversity in urban landscapes planning and design process is among the priority issues. By urbanization, the ratio of built environment increases, and natural areas decrease. Habitats for plants and animals are negatively affected by the increasing urban texture. Thus, it is observed that biodiversity in cities is affected negatively. However, in recent years, there have been increasing efforts to improve urban biodiversity. As a result, urban landscape design and planning that support biodiversity by integrating the city and nature are on the agenda. In this study, a study was conducted on Safranbolu district Karabük, which is on the UNESCO cultural heritage list. The aim of the article is to develop recommendations for landscape design and planning to support biodiversity in a city that is extremely rich in historical and natural values. In the first stage, the current situation was determined with satellite images and on-site surveys. Various planning and design solutions have been proposed for the problems identified under the headings of protection, connectivity, construction, cycles, biological interactions and designs that support wildlife. Among the elements that will support urban biodiversity while preserving its historical character, strengthening the existing green network is at the forefront. Additionally, to support this approach, it is important to use local and natural materials in the city center and nearby. Furthermore, in future design proposal areas, the plant selection should be done by considering the natural vegetation.
