Özet:

The developments following Mustafa Kemal Pashas landing in Samsun, which is considered the onset of the National Struggle, have been extensively documented in various works. Our analysis of the periods press reveals a daily account of his estrangement from the Istanbul Government. While Pashas arrival in Samsun was reported, his subsequent efforts to mobilize public resistance against the occupations and the resistance rally in Havza briefly caused a silence in the press. From June 11, 1919, news of Mustafa Kemal Pashas recall began appearing in newspapers, though the reasons for this recall were not specified. The delay in the Ministry of Wars notification of the recall decision prolonged the process and led to varied news reports. The decisions made by Pasha and his associates at the Amasya General Congress, which elicited a response from the British, ultimately led to Istanbuls decision to remove Pasha from his position. The press, again without elaborating on the reasons, simply reported his dismissal. During the Erzurum Congress, his resignation occurred and was reported in a similarly understated manner. Published documents show that the Istanbul press eventually included these significant developments in their pages after a few days. Newspapers not only reported these events but also reflected their perspectives on Anatolia and Mustafa Kemal Pasha. Over the brief period of June and July 1919, while the majority of the press reported the recall, dismissal, and resignation in a straightforward manner, opposition newspapers such as Sabah, Alemdar, and Türkçe İstanbul included negative commentaries alongside their reports.
