Özet:

Recognizedly, culture is a concept that encompasses all the elements that people learn by living and teach by passing on. The concept of culture has a distinct place, value and significance for people to establish social relations that require continuity and to form social structures. Tradition is also a concept that embodies knowledge, etiquette, experience, design, habit, behavior and similar factors transmitted from generation to generation. All traditions that influence the life of any human community constitute the culture of that human community. It is possible to mention a certain culture of tradition for human communities that meet mainly on common grounds. Goose nights are among the environments that create and keep alive this culture of tradition. It is essential that goose nights are addressed on a functional basis. In this study, goose nights, one of the most effective environments in the emergence of tradition culture, will be analyzed according to functional folklore theory. Goose nights will be analyzed in line with the four functions of folklore: having a nice time, having fun and entertaining others, supporting values, social rules and customs, passing on education or culture to future generations and escaping from personal and social pressures. As platforms that fulfill these functions, the aspects of goose nights contributing to cultural continuity will be revealed. Moreover, the depiction of the goose night phenomenon as a socialization tool will be discussed.
