Özet:

Although the public sphere and public space have often been the subject of academic studies, they remain topical and continue to be encountered in different contexts. The rise of right-wing conservative ideology, the economic burden on the lower and middle classes, and finally the practice of lockdown caused by the global pandemic are very important and effective factors for the revival of the concept of publicness. These factors have a direct impact on the existence of individuals in public spheres and spaces, and on the self-construction of individuals through interactions in space. Public spaces also function as stages where desirable behaviours are exhibited in times when interaction is essential, when life also flows in the streets, and even when this flow would be effective in creating bonds between the citizens of the country. For example, the streets and national gardens connected to the squares in the zoning plans of the last period of the Ottoman Empire, the wide squares, parks and both public and private buildings constructed in Ankara during the early years of the Republic aim to build togetherness and mutuality. This study aims to analyse the concept of public space from such perspectives.
