Özet:

This article discusses the approach developed meticulously, over many years, by the French linguist and semiotician Prof. Dr. Jean-Claude Coquet, a principal figure of the Paris School of Semiotics, and which he eventually designated as the Theory of Instances of Enunciation. This approach integrates semiotics and phenomenology, as well as highlights the fact that the phenomena of language, reality, and existence are inseparable from one another. Jean-Claude Coquet traces the origins of his theory back to Aristotle, who he thinks may be the worlds first phenomenologist, yet declares that Émile Benveniste, the linguist, is his greatest source of influence. Coquet indeed borrows the concepts that form the foundation of his theory from Benveniste, whose lectures he attended at Collège de France; however, he benefits from those concepts by enhancing their contents. This study examines the concepts of discourse, instance of enunciation, subject, subjectivity, and object, which exemplify the afore-mentioned concepts, and moreover, demonstrates how their contents are modified while transitioning from Benvenistes linguistics of enunciation to Coquets Theory of Instances of Enunciation. Coquet not only modifies the contents of these concepts, but also proposes new concepts based on them and makes a typology of these modified concepts. This article also scrutinizes how the principle of reality, pioneered by Benveniste, finds a place in Coquets theory and spotlights the way Coquet conceptualizes reality-truth relationships. Jean-Claude Coquet, who made significant contributions to modern-day semiotics through the authentic approach and concepts he suggested, is a leading scientist who has influenced many researchers. Built on a solid foundation, the Theory of Instances of Enunciation presents an approach that is adopted and utilized not only in the field of literary semiotics but also in the field of semiotics of translation.
