Özet:

The May 14, 2023 Presidential and Parliamentary General Elections were seen and evaluated as one of the most important elections in the history of the Republic in Turkish political history. Every election is important for its period and conjuncture. However, although the 1950 elections were an important transition and historical significance in the transition from the single-party era to multi-party life, the May 14, 2023 elections took place as an election in which R. Tayyip Erdoğan and the AK Party, who held power for the longest time in the history of the Republic after the adoption of the 2018 Presidential government system, lost votes, while the opposition had the opportunity to win the elections after a long break, but ultimately the opposition lost again. In this new political structure, which can be compared over two blocks as the Peoples Alliance and the Nations Alliance, political parties belonging to different ideologies came together under the roof of an alliance in this process where the political language became increasingly polarised and sharpened, and they had to take a position on ideological or pragmatic grounds in this new ground of politics. In this framework, whether the voting behaviour of the voters in the 14 May 2023 elections was determined more by their ideological perspectives or by pragmatic criteria appropriate to the political ground created by the new system. The aim of this study is to try to understand whether the voters continue to support the political parties and leaders they have voted for so far, and if there is a change, to understand the reasons for this change. Within the scope of this study, which tries to analyse the breakdown in voting tendencies of voters through a field research in Yozgat with in-depth interviews from qualitative research methods, as a result of interviews with 30 voters, it will be tried to be understood with the background of the change in voting preferences in 2018 and 2023 Presidential and Parliamentary General Elections.
