Özet:

There is cooperation between Russia and Iran on many issues such as defense, nuclear energy studies and foreign policy. This cooperation brings many benefits to both countries, both diplomatically and strategically. Russia and Iran, which have been getting closer since the end of the Cold War, are cooperating especially on Irans work in the field of nuclear energy and the protection of the Assad administration in Syria after the Arab Spring. The problems between Russia and Ukraine started with the end of the Cold War and resulted in Russias invasion of Ukraine on February 24, 2022. The war between Russia and Ukraine still continues. During this war, many countries around the world support Ukraine and impose sanctions against Russia. During the Russia-Ukraine War, Iran provided political, diplomatic and military support to Russia, which was facing sanctions. Irans support to Russia contributes to the direction of the relations between the two countries towards a strategic alliance. This article argues that although Iran-Russia relations improved during the Ukrainian War and began to turn into a strategic alliance, the establishment of a strong and long-lasting alliance faces difficulties due to the sanctions decrees of both countries and the ongoing internal turmoil in Iran.
