Özet:

Among the bazaar structures, the covered bazaar structures, bedestens, which form the center of a trade zone in Turkish urbanism, attract attention with their architectural and spatial features. Many covered bazaar structures in the Black Sea Region have different plan typologies and are located on historical transportation routes. The study aims to determine the design decisions taken into consideration in the design of bazaars with different characteristics in the Black Sea Region. In this context, a cubit grid and quadrature system analysis were carried out on the bazaar plans. It aims to determine the dimensions of covered bazaars, the dimensions of structural and architectural elements, and the proportional and formal relationships between them. Covered bazaar structures examined within the scope of the study: Vezirköprü Bedesten, Merzifon Bedesten, Amasya Bedesten, Tokat Bedesten, Trabzon Bedesten, and Bayburt Bedesten. The study showed that structures with similar functions built in the same region were built using similar proportional relationships and units of measurement, even if they had different typological features. This means the buildings were originally designed, but some standard measurements and proportional relationships were applied to all buildings. Similar mass and structural element dimensions were used in structures built on the same road route, suggesting that certain design decisions may have been made for the road routes. Determining the geometric rules used in the covered bazaars of the Black Sea Region is an essential step in determining the design principles of Ottoman Architecture.
