Özet:

Abortion refers to the termination of pregnancy due to a situation that threatens a womans health or the voluntary termination of pregnancy even if there is no such danger. This practice pits the life of the fetus against the freedom of the woman and has led to debates in many legal, moral, political, economic, sociological, and religious fields. The debates mainly revolve around pro-choicers who support abortion and pro-lifers who prioritize the fetus. Over time, views such as departurism and evictionism have emerged to try to find a middle ground between these two poles. In this study, abortion is analyzed from the perspective of libertarianism, a philosophical thought that holds that individuals should be able to live freely as long as they do not harm others. In the first chapter of the study, abortion and libertarianism are discussed in general terms, and approaches to abortion within the libertarian thought are presented. The second chapter examines the arguments of Walter E. Block and Jakub B. Wisniewski, two libertarian thinkers who have engaged in years of intellectual debate on abortion, based on the libertarian axioms of self-ownership and non-aggression. In the debates, it is seen that Block adopts evictionism while Wisniewski adopts the pro-life view. In this article, abortion practices are analyzed from a libertarian perspective based on the debates between Block and Wisniewski, and thus, it is aimed to contribute to the literature by providing a different dimension to the abortion debates.
