Özet:

Impressionism is an art movement that emerged in France in the second half of the 19th century. Artists personal search for style based on their understanding of light and color in the face of nature and developments in the scientific field were effective in the formation of the Impressionism movement. Impressionists aimed to reflect a snapshot of nature as light and color in aerial perspective. Impressionism influenced all European art in the years it emerged and Ottoman art in the following years. The influence can be observed in the paintings of Halil Pasha, one of the first military painters. The purpose and conceptual framework of the study were shaped in this direction. Halil Pasha is sent to Europe for education as a result of the Ottoman diplomatic relations with the West. Halil Pasha studied painting within the scope of French classicism in the workshops of Jean-Leon Gerome and Gustave Courtois in Europe. Halil Pasha was influenced by impressionism during his education in Paris and reflected this to a certain extent in his works. In this respect, the artist is accepted as one of the important pioneers of Turkish impressionism. Halil Pasha, who focuses more on impressionist influences in his recent works, makes a great contribution to the modernization of modern Turkish painting. The artists deep interest in impressionism also influenced the artists who shaped modern Turkish painting after him, such as the 1914 Generation. In this research, the effects of impressionism, which emerged in France, on Halil Pashas paintings were discussed. Descriptive research method was used regarding the artist and the movement he was influenced. In order to understand the effects of the Impressionist art movement on Halil Pashas works, written and printed media, internet resources, academic studies and catalogs about the artist were identified and examined. Using the findings regarding impressionism, the effects on Halil Pashas paintings were determined.
