Özet:

Background and Aims In mountainous areas, rugged terrains and forest villages located far from the center, forestry activities have an important place in the livelihood of the forest villagers. Forest villages in Türkiye show differences in terms of their economic, cultural and social structures. These differences affect the villagers relations with the forest management, their participation levels in forestry activities and their orientation towards non-forestry income sources. The aim of this study is to examine the economic situation of the forest villagers, their wood raw material production and non-forestry incomes, and their relations with the forest management in the villages of Bayat, Kirazlıyayla and Emrez, which are affiliated to the central district of Kütahya, representing Kütahya. Methods The villages were selected because they have large forest areas within the borders of the Kütahya Forestry Regional Directorate and because they are among the places where wood production is intensively carried out. A face-to-face survey was conducted with a total of 100 forest villagers selected from the villages of Bayat, Kirazlıyayla, and Emrez using the simple random sampling method. The survey was conducted in 2022. The data obtained in the study were first evaluated with the help of descriptive statistics, and then the Kruskal-Wallis H test was used to examine whether there was a statistically significant difference between various socio-economic variable groups. The different groupgroups were determined using the Duncan test, and all analyzes were performed using SPSS 26.0 version software and Excel. Results The main source of income for 72 of the villagers is farming. It has been determined that the income they earn from forestry production jobs is below the minimum wage. In addition, although the villagers have not reached the income level they expected from forestry activities, they continue to see forestry as a potential source of income. Conclusions In accordance with local conditions, potential economic activities such as beekeeping should be implemented. In addition to wood raw material production, alternative income sources and forest product processing workshops can be created, and studies on agricultural forestry can be initiated.
