Investigation of Elementary Mathematics Teachers' Views on the Examples Used in the Teaching of Ratio and Proportion

 Examples are the special cases of the concept in order to explain the definitions of a concept, to detail or concretize the situations that belong to the concept or not. In this research, it was aimed to examine how elementary school mathematics teachers determine the examples when they use in teaching of ratio and proportion and their views about the examples for different stages of their courses. The cross-sectional survey method was used in the study. The participants of the study consisted of 97 elementary school mathematics teachers determined by convenience sampling method. Data were collected with a questionnaire consisting of open-ended questions and semi-structured interviews for teachers. The data were analyzed by descriptive analysis. Categorizes were created according to the answers given by the teachers. As a result of the research, it was determined that although the types of examples used by teachers at different stages of the course differ, they include examples related to daily life at every stage of the course. It was determined that more examples are given from daily life especially at the beginning of the course. It was seen that the resources of examples that teachers use were Auxiliary resources and reference books, Textbooks, Internet and EBA and ÖDSGM. Also, some teachers stated that they created their own examples. It was determined that the majority of the teachers obtained examples from several sources, not from a single source. In addition, it was determined that when the teachers professional seniority increases their examples preferences were textbooks rather than digital resources such as EBA and internet.

 Örnekler; bir kavrama ait tanımları açıklamak, kavrama ait olan ya da olmayan durumları detaylandırmak veya somutlaştırmak amacıyla, kavramın özel durumlarını oluşturan yapılardır. Bu araştırmada ortaokul matematik öğretmenlerinin; oran-orantı konusunda örnekleri nasıl belirlediklerini, derslerin farklı aşamalarında ne tür örnekleri kullandıklarını tespit etmek ve örnekleri kullanırken yararlandıkları kaynakların neler olduğunu ortaya çıkarmak amaçlanmıştır. Araştırmada tarama yöntemi türlerinden biri olan kesitsel tarama yöntemi kullanılmıştır. Araştırmanın katılımcıları, uygun örnekleme yöntemiyle belirlenen 97 ortaokul matematik öğretmeninden oluşmaktadır. Araştırmanın verileri, öğretmenlere uygulanan açık uçlu sorulardan oluşan anket ve yarı-yapılandırılmış mülakatlar yardımıyla toplanmıştır. Elde edilen veriler betimsel olarak analiz edilmiştir. Öğretmenlerin verdikleri cevaplara göre kategoriler oluşturulmuştur. Araştırma sonucunda öğretmenlerin kullandıkları örnek türlerinin dersin aşamalarına göre farklılık gösterdiği tespit edilmiştir. Bununla birlikte öğretmenlerin günlük hayatla ilişkili örnekleri dersin her aşamasında kullandıkları belirlenmiştir. Öğretmenlerin örnekleri kullanırken yararlandıkları kaynakların; yardımcı kaynaklar, z-kitap, ders kitabı, internet ve EBA ile ÖDSGM olduğu görülmüştür. Bazı öğretmenler ise herhangi bir kaynaktan yararlanmadan kendilerinin örnekler hazırladıklarını ifade etmişlerdir. Öğretmenlerin örnek seçiminde sadece bir kaynağa bağlı kalmadıkları, farklı kaynaklardan yararlandıkları tespit edilmiştir. Bunun yanı sıra öğretmenlerin mesleki kıdemi arttıkça EBA ve internet gibi dijital kaynaklar yerine daha çok ders kitaplarındaki örnekleri tercih ettikleri belirlenmiştir.
