Özet:

The Hasankeyf branch of the Ayyubids, which ruled for more than two centuries, appears as a dynasty that played a dominant role in the history of the region in the period from the Mongol invasion to the Ottoman domination. During this period when the Ayyubids dominated Hasankeyf and its surroundings, a suitable ground for cultural developments was formed. The rulers built suitable places for cultural and scientific activities. Many scholars were trained in the madrasas and scientific works were written. Above all, Ayyubid rulers themselves were engaged in science and pioneered scientific developments. Their patronage and encouragement of the scholars who came to Hasankeyf during their rule contributed positively to the scientific developments. While some of the scientific studies carried out in this period were related to religious sciences, others were related to humanities and physical sciences. The fact that the scholarly activities carried out in Hasankeyf were not only limited to religious sciences but also multifaceted contributed positively to the development of the city. We come across the existence of private libraries belonging to the rulers during the Ayyubid period in historical records. Starting from Saladin Ayyubid, the most important ruler of the foundation period, the Ayyubid rulers in different regions established personal libraries. Among the Ayyubid rulers of Hasankeyf, al-Malik al-Adil Suleymān d. 1424 stands out with his intellectual personality. The library established by him in Hasankeyf during his reign is famous for its rich content.
