Özet:

This study explores contemporary debates in the Arab world regarding the presence of defective hadiths ʿilla in Sahih Muslim and examines the different approaches developed within this context. Various opinions have been put forward concerning whether Muslim deliberately included defective hadiths in his compilation through a specific methodology. In this regard, contemporary hadith scholar Rabi al-Madkhali dismisses such criticisms, asserting that there are no defective hadiths in Sahih Muslim. In contrast, scholars such as Hamza al-Malibari, Muhammad Awwama, and others argue that Muslim incorporated these hadiths into his work within a defined methodological framework. The majority of contemporary studies from the Arab world assert that Muslim intentionally included defective hadiths in Sahih Muslim. However, Madkhali opposes this view, maintaining that Muslim meticulously selected authentic hadiths and that any perceived flaws in the compilation do not compromise the authenticity of the hadiths. This study aims to provide a detailed analysis of how the concept of ʿilla is addressed in Sahih Muslim and to elucidate the differences of opinion among various approaches, in light of ongoing debates in the Arab world and the evaluations present in the academic literature on the subject.
