 In this study, the problems experienced by individuals who are different from the majority and who do not have a nationalist-conservative thought and lifestyle in Karaman, a periphery province where a nationalist-conservative social structure is dominant, were investigated. For this purpose, information was given about the basic terms to be used in the research and a literature review was carried out about these terms. In this context, firstly, the term periphery and the life in the periphery were discussed, and the strongly dominant nationalist-conservative social structure in the periphery was mentioned. Then, in order to better understand the problems faced by individuals who are different from the nationalist-conservative society in the periphery and the interventions they are exposed to, the concept of the other, which is the focal point of the study, and the phenomenon of othering were examined. Then, the concept of discrimination was discussed, and in the next parts of the study, information about hate speech and hate crime was given. Finally, in-depth interviews were conducted with individuals who think that they are marginalized because they are not nationalist-conservative in Karaman. These people consist of members and managers of political parties, non-governmental organizations and unions that do not have a nationalist-conservative mindset. After the interviews, experienced discriminations were classified and it was stated which type of discrimination was experienced more.

 Bu çalışmada milliyetçi-muhafazakâr bir toplumsal yapının hâkim olduğu bir taşra ili olan Karaman ilinde çoğunluktan farklı olan, milliyetçi-muhafazakâr düşünceye ve yaşam tarzına sahip olmayan bireylerin yaşadıkları problemler araştırılmıştır. Bu amaçla araştırmada kullanılacak temel kavramlara dair bilgi verilmiş ve bu kavramlar hakkında literatür taraması gerçekleştirilmiştir. Bu bağlamda ilk olarak taşra terimi ve taşradaki hayat ele alınmış, taşrada kuvvetli biçimde egemen milliyetçi-muhafazakâr iklime değinilmiştir. Ardından taşradaki milliyetçi-muhafazakâr toplumdan farklı olan bireylerin karşılaştığı problemleri, maruz kaldıkları müdahaleleri daha iyi anlayabilmek amacıyla çalışmanın odak noktası olan öteki kavramı ve ötekileştirilme olgusu incelenmiştir. Daha sonra ayrımcılık kavramı ele alınmış, çalışmanın ilerleyen kısmında ise nefret söylemi ve nefret suçu hakkında bilgi verilmiştir. Son olarak Karamanda milliyetçi-muhafazakâr olmadığı için ötekileştirilmeye uğradığını düşünen bireyler ile derinlemesine mülakat yapılmıştır. Bu kişiler, milliyetçi-muhafazakâr düşünce yapısına sahip olmayan siyasi partilerin, sivil toplum kuruluşlarının ve sendikaların üyeleri ve yöneticilerinden oluşmaktadır. Mülakatların ardından tecrübe edilen ayrımcılıklar sınıflandırılmış ve hangi tarzda ayrımcılığın daha çok yaşandığı belirtilmiştir.
