Özet:

This study examines the perception of women as wives in early Islamic Arabic poetry. It seeks to explore how women were viewed as spouses in the poetry of that era. The verses analyzed in this study are significant because they offer insights into how women were perceived as wives in Islamic society at the relevant time. Although recent studies have addressed the position of women in Islam, they often do not adequately cover the perception of women as wives, focusing instead on general characteristics. What makes our study different is the approaches and details reflected in the couplets of early Islamic Arabic poetry. Document analysis, one of the qualitative method techniques, was used in the study. First of all, in order to provide a better understanding of the subject, brief information about the position of women in the Arab society of the Jāhiliyya period and during the Prophets era was given as a background. Then, the relevant couplets available in the Arabic poetry of the period were translated, necessary evaluations were made and interesting findings were pointed out. The couplets pointing to the continuation of the tradition of marriage in the Jāhiliyyah period until the time of Caliph Umar and the marriage with stepmother are among the interesting findings that attract attention in the Arabic poetry of the period. Similarly, there are interesting findings in early Islamic Arabic poetry that indicate that women were treated as wives with love, respect and compassion, and that sometimes they went to extremes in this regard by compromising Islamic principles. From the relevant couplets, it is understood that if the excessive passion for the woman as a wife led the husband to behaviors contrary to Islamic principles, the bonds of love between husband and wife were disregarded and sanctions were imposed to force the husband divorce his wife.

Hz. Ömer öl. 23644 dönemine kadar Câhiliye Devri nikâh geleneğinin sürdürüldüğüne ve üvey anneyle evlilik yapıldığına işaret eden beyitler dönemin Arap şiirinde dikkat çeken ilginç tespitler arasında yer almaktadır. Benzer biçimde İslâmın erken dönemi Arap şiirlerinde eş olarak kadına sevgi, saygı ve merhamet duyguları gözetilerek muamelede bulunulduğuna, dahası bazı zamanlar bu hususta İslâm prensiplerinden ödün verilerek aşırıya kaçıldığına işaret eden ilginç tespitler de yer almaktadır. İlgili beyitlerden; eş olarak kadına olan aşırı tutkunun kocayı İslâm prensiplerine muhalif davranışlara sevk etmesi durumunda karı-koca arasındaki sevgi bağlarına itibar edilmediği ve kadını boşamaya zorlayıcı yaptırımların uygulandığı anlaşılmaktadır.
