Özet:

This study addresses the subject of understanding the Prophetic Hadith in the work Civil Democratic Islam by the American author Cheryl Benard. The researcher adopts an inductive and critical methodology to analyze the authors approach to interpreting Hadith. The study reveals that Benard attaches significant importance to understanding Hadith, recognizing its crucial role in advancing the project of civil democratic Islam. The author acknowledges the central role of Hadith in the lives of Muslims; consequently, she frequently cites and explains Hadith in her work. However, she bases her interpretation and acceptance of Hadith on the standards and principles of Western modernity. Through this approach, she contributes to a modernist rereading of Prophetic texts, disregarding the established scientific foundations for Hadith interpretation developed by Muslim scholars throughout Islamic history. This ultimately undermines the authority of the Prophetic Sunnah, which constitutes a cornerstone of Islamic identity.

Bu çalışma, Amerikalı yazar Cherly Benardın Sivil Demokratik İslam adlı eserinde hadis-i şerifin anlaşılması konusunu ele almaktadır.
