Özet:

Cyprus was conquered by the Ottoman Empire in 1571 and remained under Turkish rule for 307 years. Britain, who temporarily owned the island in 1878, officially seized the sovereignty of the island with the 1923 Lausanne Peace Treaty. Britain gave independence to Cyprus, which it had colonized, in 1960. Western Thrace, which constitutes the other pillar of the study, was given to Bulgaria in the 1913 Balkan War, but legally left to Greece with the Lausanne Peace Treaty. From a historical perspective, it is possible to say that these two regions, which have been home to the Turks, have a similar political history. Two leaders who live in the two mentioned regions and whose professions are medicine, Dr. Fazil Kucuk and Dr. Sadik Ahmet embarked on a struggle to defend the rights and laws of the Turks living in Cyprus and Western Thrace. While Dr. Fazil Kucuk tried to protect the identity and existence of the Turkish Cypriots without reducing them to minority status, Dr. Sadik Ahmet tried to protect the minority rights determined by the Lausanne Peace Treaty and to keep the Turkish identity alive against any threat of ignoring it. In this study, Dr. Fazil Kucuk and Dr. Sadik Ahmets ability to hold together the Turkish society they live in with the advantage of his profession, as well as the ways and struggle styles of the Turks living in Cyprus and Western Thrace in terms of defending and protecting their rights and laws were examined.
