Özet:

In studies related to the war strategies of the nomadic Oghuzs in the epic tales of Dede Korkut, the content of the concept of strategy has been determined by considering the practices of institutional armies established by settled societies. We believe that these commonly accepted definitions do not apply to nomadic armies, as nomadic armies have their unique strategy. Moreover, we argue that the strategies and tactics employed by the nomadic Oghuz are not exclusive to times of war but constitute a strategy inherent in the Oghuz way of life. Starting from the fact that the epic tales of Dede Korkut are highly significant texts reflecting the way of life of the Oghuz, we decided to initially test our hypothesis through these texts. At this point, we laid the foundation of our study based on Pierre Bourdieus definition of strategy. As for the theoretical approach of our study, we adopted the War Machine theory of Jill Deleuze and Felix Guattari. Naturally, in our research, we used the texts of the Dede Korkut epic, but in some instances, we also incorporated certain data related to Oghuz history to provide stronger support for our thesis. This research revealed that the lifestyle of the nomadic Oghuz, characterized by a militaristic nature, exhibits a dynamic readiness for war in every aspect of life. The said study has demonstrated that the abilities, equipment, and predispositions possessed by the Oghuz society as a whole and by its individuals contribute to the formation of this strategy.
