Özet:

What is “surreal” has been shown interest in every era of the history. This case can seem to be reasonable in the age of superstitions before the emergence of the scientific knowledge. However, despite of the understanding of scientific knowledge built in the process following the Industrial Revolution and mass media that allow the knowledge to spread over the entire of the society, the increase in interest on those that are surreal in recent years is a social phenomenon that is worth analysing. The purpose of this study is to reveal how the media carries out a “surreal” presentation by deviating from the scientific basis and the context of the reality, based on the calendar used by the ancient Maya civilization. New articles included into the sampling process within the scope of this study will be analysed by the framing approach. It will be addressed in the framework of this study how a presentation is created by the media with “data” having no scientific basis, instead of scientific “knowledge” verified by science fields such as history, archaeology, anthropology etc. in connection with the calendar of the Maya civilization, and how the news items are conveyed to the public, with headlines, subheadings, main headings, spots and images used. In addition to the framing analysis, the news items will be reviewed on the basis of the discourse analysis, in order to reveal to what extent the news items are deviated from their context. Thus, it has been revealed how news articles are conveyed to readers by fictionalizing with a “Mysterious” and “Port-Truth” language. Based on this, the whole of news articles published on the websites of the newspapers Habertürk, Milliyet and Hürriyet has been analysed. However, this study contains only 18 news samples because of limitations in the article. Findings regarding the analysis of all news articles have been cited as statistical data in the result section of this study

Tarihin her döneminde "gerçeküstü" olana ilgi gösterilmiştir.
