Özet:

Aim: This study was conducted to determine the relationship between perceived stress levels before delivery and maternal expectations after delivery in pregnant women. Method: The study was designed as descriptive and correlational. The sample of the study consisted of 380 pregnant women who visited the obstetrics clinic of a city hospital between November 2023 and May 2024 and met the inclusion criteria. Data were collected through face-to-face interviews using a demog-raphic information form, the Antenatal Perceived Stress Inventory APSI, and the Antenatal Maternal Expectations Scale AMES. Results: The average age of the participants was 27.97 5.61, and the average gestational week was 34.96 7.60. It was found that 96.8 of the participants wanted the pregnancy, 69.2 did not experien-ce any issues during pregnancy, and 88.4 had a close relative to support them in the postpartum pe-riod. The total mean score of APSI was 2.11 0.68 min1, max5, and the total mean score of AMES was 86.09 10.74 min36, max149. A weak negative correlation was found between APSI and AMES r-0.192, p0.000. Conclusion: The results of the study showed that the stress levels of pregnant women were not very high, but they had unrealistic negative expectations about motherhood. Additionally, as the stress levels of the pregnant women increased, their maternal expectations decreased. In this regard, it is suggested that efforts be made to reduce stress levels during antenatal follow-ups, and educational and support groups be established to support realistic maternal expectations.
