Özet:

The Ottoman Empire and Germany, which entered the First World War as part of the Alliance Group, cooperated in military aviation as in many other areas during the war. The Ottoman Empire, which had 6 airplanes and 6 pilots at the beginning of the war, fought on the fronts with 415 airplanes and 390 pilots and 1740 German aircraft maintainers, which it received from its ally Germany during the war. During the course of the war, the Ottoman armies were active in Çanakkale by organizing two land and one naval aviation squadrons. The squadrons established in Çanakkale were composed of German and Turkish personnel. One of the pilots who served in the region during the course of the war was German Pilot Captain Hans Joachim Buddecke. Captain Buddecke arrived on the Gallipoli Front in 1915 and was given the task of intercepting Allied air raids. Captain Buddecke officially shot down a total of 13 aircraft, three of them on the European fronts, and was nicknamed Falcon by Turkish soldiers. During the course of the First World War, he sometimes served on the European fronts and sometimes on the Ottoman fronts and played an important role in ensuring air dominance. In 1918, he was shot in the chest during an air battle on the European fronts to which he was assigned. The research will be conducted within the framework of documents obtained from the Presidency of the Republic of Turkey State Archives CDAB and the Archives of the Ministry of National Defense Archives and Military History Department ATASE, as well as studies, periodicals and memoirs reflecting the period. The research reveals the role of German Pilot Hans Joachim Buddecke, who served in the Ottoman Army during the First World War, in the Çanakkale Battles and shows his place in the history of German and Turkish aviation.
