Özet:

The migration experience is significantly influenced by the time period and circumstances in which a migrant lives. For example, a person with a migration background born in the 1990s and a person with a migration background born in the host country today, despite being of the same generation, their experiences may differ over time. Furthermore, the conditions of the host country at that time are a key factor in determining the migration experience. This study evaluates the cinematic representations of young Turkish people born and raised in the host country with migrant families. In this context, the film Short and Painless Kurz und Schmerzlos 1998, directed by Fatih Akın, was examined. The study explored the integration and communication of a young Turkish man with an immigrant background with the host society, his ties to his country of origin, and his preservation of his culture. This analysis also explored factors such as belonging to both countries, the films timespace imagery, the cultural representations of the setting, and the metaphors used. The difficulties experienced by the lead character, a young Turkish man, in integrating with the host society are particularly noteworthy. His yearning to return to his country of origin demonstrates his sense of belonging to his country. He maintains this belonging through an image of Turkey, dreaming of establishing a stable and happy life in his country of origin. However, he also sees himself as a native of Altona, where he lives, and feels a sense of belonging there. In this context, it is also mentioned how the feelings of a young Turkish person with an immigrant background in the 90s, such as his struggle to exist in the country where he was born and raised, his feeling of being divided between the two countries, his pessimism, and his desire to return to his country of origin, Turkey, were handled in immigrant cinema.
