Özet:

Hayrettin Erkmen is the youngest minister of the Democratic Party, who personally experienced the coups as a member of the senior management of the current ruling party during the coups of May 27 and September 12. He is also the minister of the Justice Party and the first minister in the history of Türkiyes democracy to be dismissed by interpellation. His memories, experiences, important events of his time and his comments and evaluations about them will be discussed in this paper. Thus, understanding and researching Erkmens experiences and his perspective on what he experienced, who took important duties at critical times in the history of Turkish democracy and witnessed important events, will contribute to a better understanding and illumination of Turkeys history of democracy. In particular, the study examines Hayrettin Erkmens entry into politics with the Democratic Party, why he chose the Democratic Party, why he especially chose the Ministry of Labor, what he experienced during the May 27 Coup, his trial process in Yassıada, his conviction, and why he returned to politics after his captivity was over. After he chose the Justice Party, served as the Minister of Foreign Affairs in the minority government of the Justice Party, and became the first minister to be dismissed by interpellation, his own comments and analyzes about this interpellation will be shared and the process leading to September 12 will be criticized. However, there is almost no study on Erkmen in the literature other than the publication of his memoirs. For this reason, it is aimed to contribute to the literature and the history of democracy by making use of Erkmens memories, newspapers of the period, parliamentary minutes and sources of the period.
