Özet:

This research analyzes Squid Game 1 using Richard Sennetts concepts of character erosion and dystopian control mechanism. In the research, it is stated that the neoliberal economic understanding that emerged in the 1980s and continues to be effective today is reflected in the series. In the study, the characters in the series Squid Game 1 and the relationships between the characters are analyzed through Sennetts concepts of character erosion: The Effects of Work on Personality in the New Capitalism 2008, while the control mechanisms created in the series are analyzed using four dystopian control mechanism concepts. The method used in the study is the descriptive analysis method of qualitative research. The sample selection is purposive sampling method. While the characters are explained with Sennetts eight concepts explaining character erosion, the dystopian elements are analyzed with four control mechanism concepts. The main characters in the series are analyzed with the concepts of character erosion and dystopian control mechanisms, and the relationship between these concepts and the characters is analyzed. As a result of the research, it is argued that the main characters in the series have characteristics that reflect Sennetts concepts of character erosion. At the same time, it is argued that the control mechanisms in the series are parallel to dystopian concepts of control mechanisms.

Bu araştırma Squid Game 1 dizisini Richard Sennettin karakter aşınması ve distopik kontrol mekanizma kavramlarıyla incelemektedir. Araştırmada 1980li yıllarda ortaya çıkan ve günümüze kadar etkisini sürdüren neoliberalizmin dizide yansıtıldığı ifade edilmektedir. Squid Game 1 dizisinde yer alan karakterler ve karakterler arasındaki ilişkiler, Richard Sennettin Karakter Aşınması: Yeni Kapitalizmde İşin Kişilik Üzerindeki Etkileri 2008 eserinde yer alan kavramlarla incelenirken, dizide yaratılan kontrol mekanizmaları ise distopik kontrol mekanizma kavramlarıyla analiz edilmektedir. Çalışmada kullanılan yöntem nitel araştırmanın betimsel analiz yöntemidir. Örneklem seçimi ise amaçlı örneklem olarak belirlenmiştir. Dizideki karakterler Sennettin karakter aşınmasını açıkladığı sekiz kavramla incelenmektedir. Dizide yaratılan kontrol mekanizmaları ise dört distopik kontrol mekanizma kavramıyla çözümlenmektedir. Dizideki ana karakterler, karakter aşınması ve distopik kontrol mekanizma kavramlarıyla ilişkilendirilerek çözümlenmektedir. Araştırma sonucunda, dizideki ana karakterlerin Sennettin karakter aşınması kavramlarını yansıtan özellikleri barındırdığı ileri sürülmektedir. Aynı zamanda dizideki kontrol mekanizmaların ise distopik kontrol mekanizma kavramlarıyla paralellik gösterdiği ifade edilmektedir.
