Özet:

In the historical context, the Crusades were not only a pre-colonial attempt organised by Europe against the Eastern Islamic world, but also a process that built the intellectual foundations of this attempt. The main purpose of the formation of the Crusader source literature is to address the causes, processes and results of the Crusades from a Crusader perspective. The Crusader chronicles, which were written from the existing perspective and mostly emerged from the minds of the clergy, portrayed the Crusaders of the period; they also portrayed the enemies of the Crusaders with the same determination. This was done out of a drive to exist ontologically in Crusader sources and epistemologically embedded in the Crusader corpus the idea of who the enemy was. This article examines how and in what way the Turks are treated in the Crusader sources. The perception of the Turks in the source corpus of the Crusades, which was a long-term outcome of the Turkification and Islamization of Anatolia, was processed through fear and then deepened with takfir and anti-Islamism, and this deepened the Crusader identity through the portrayal of the other. This perspective has also created a paradigm for the perception of Turks in European literature in the context of Turkophobia. In this article, the concept analysis method was used and in this context, the framework of the concepts defining the Turks in the CrusaderWestern mind was tried to be drawn.
