Özet:

Blood feuds keep an essential position due to their noteworthy impacts on the social sphere. Economic, social, and cultural losses are the usual, expected and even desired reflections of blood feuds. Loaded concepts such as glory, honor and virtue, which Bourdieu referred to as symbolic capital components, affect the social structure in parallel with their functions in the social field. In a social structure where these concepts are meaningful, they are referred to as the source of legitimacy. This study focuses on the perspectives of those who consider the blood feud legitimate and those who tolerate it, despite all the losses and costs arising from blood feuds. The study deals with the symbolic significance of concepts such as glory, honor, virtue, and respect in blood feuds and their effects on the emergence of blood feuds. The study was conducted by a qualitative method. Due to the prominence of the male role in blood feuds, the interviewees were male, and a total of ten participants were interviewed. In order to capture the founding nature or common discourse of the feud, participants were chosen from those have migrated to different cities due to blood feuds. Furthermore, how the families who experienced the feud narrated the event to their children through what kind of discourse and the similarities between the new and old generations were also included in the study in order to figure out the place of the feuds in memory. According to the findings, it was observed that concepts such as glory, honor and virtue directly affected the course of the event in blood feuds. It was observed that the social environment was guiding in terms of the parties acting in accordance with institutionalized norms, which ensured that the event was transmitted to the next generations. It can be concluded that there is a common belief that opinion leaders possess the authority that ensures the reconciliation of the parties in blood feuds.
