Özet:

Zeytinliada is located approximately 250 m offshore from the Erdek District of Balıkesir. During the excavations carried out in Zeytinliada between 2006 and 2016, the Virgin Mary Monastery, churches within the monastery and structures related to daily life were identified. Studies in Zeytinliada East Excavation Area were carried out in 2009, 2011, 2012 and 2016. As a result of these excavations, a group of structures relating to religious and daily life in the area were unearthed. These structures showed that there was a collection of structures related to social, as well as religious life on the island. On Zeytinliada, a total of 211 coins were found, 108 in the chapel, 59 in the East Excavation Site, and 44 in the Virgin Mary Church. Many examples of ceramics, oil lamps, metal artifacts and coins were among the small finds unearthed in the East Excavation Site, where a group of structures related to social life are located. 59 coins, which are the subject of the article, were found in different parts of the area and in different strata of the excavations. 43 of the coins were identified, while 16 coins could not be identified due to excessive corrosion. One of the identified coins catalogued is dated to the Aurelianus period 270-275 A.D., while the other coins date from the end of the V cent. A.D. and to the first quarter of the VII cent. A.D. These coins were struck at 6 different mints during the dynastic years of 8 emperors. The coins poor general condition were minted in 6 different units in total. The analyzed coins were compared with the works found and published from the Eastern Excavation Site, and the phases of use of the area were determined.
