Özet:

From the era of Jahiliyyah onward, when discussing the concept of Arabic literature, classical Arabic poetry first comes to mind, characterized by forms such as the qasida and themes including madih, fakhr, satire, ghazal and hamase. As historical conditions evolved, it became inevitable that for new poetic styles would emerge to address contemporary developments. Modern Arabic Literature, which many literary scholars trace to Napoleons invasion of Egypt, is also a period in which new movements emerged. Among the influential figures in the development of this period in the Arab world was the Syrian poet Nizar Qabbani. Like his contemporaries, Qabbani was influenced by Western literary movements such as symbolism, realism, surrealism, existentialism, and the Romanticism, which originated in 18th-century England. Known as a poet of love and women, Qabbani wrote an ode for his wife Balqis, who was killed in the bombing of the Iraqi Embassy in Beirut. This poem serves as an elegy in her memory. However, considering the romantic elements it contains, it also warrants examination as a poem incorporating elements of the ghazal. The poet employed highly expressive language to convey love and the anguish of separation in his poem, crafted as if he were directly addressing to his beloved wife. In the study, it was determined that the qasida contains some unique romantic elements such as sincere love, strong emotions, symbolic expression, invocation of nature, wide imagination, which are illustrated through textual examples. The study concludes that Qabbânî transforms the elegy into a ghazal thorough his use of romantic elements.
