Özet:

This article examines the use and transformation of religious imagery in Didem Madaks poetry. In the study, religious images in the poets three poetry books are analyzed through qualitative content analysis and intertextual reading. In particular, the reflection of the Sufi texts that the poet read during his three-year retreat period on his poems is analyzed. The results of the research show that Madak reproduces religious images with a modern interpretation by detaching them from their traditional context. It is noteworthy that the poet situates the sacred in everyday life and uses religious concepts as a means of existential questioning. Especially expressions such as I became sincere with Allah and my face descended into light appear as a modern interpretation of classical Sufism. In the study, three main functions of religious images in Madaks poems were identified: First, they are used as a tool for existential questioning; second, they function as a metaphor for the criticism of modern urban life; and third, they are used as a means of expression to convey personal spiritual experience. In this context, it is seen that the poet reinterprets the Sufi tradition from Ghazali to Mevlana in a modern language.
