Özet:

This research analyzes the representation of migration in humor magazines as an alternative interpretation of the current agenda. As such, the two humor magazines with the highest circulation were studied, and the caricatures within them were analyzed using content analysis to reveal the context and ratio of the representation of migration within those caricatures. The representation of concepts related to migration, along with the context and frequency of these representations were calculated. The recent increase of refugees in Turkey has caused migration to become a prominent subject in all agendas. Therefore, this study aims to reveal the scope and form of how migration is portrayed in humor magazines. To this end, all 2017 prints of the two humor magazines with the highest circulation in Turkey were included in the study. As weekly publications, the first three pages of these magazines are reserved for current events, and these pages from all issues of 2017 were studies using content analysis regarding their portrayal of migration. “Concepts Related to Migration”, “Institutions Mentioned”, and “Migrants” were the resulting three main themes. The findings of the analysis are pertinent regarding the information provided on the social reflection of migrants, refugees, and migration.
