Özet:

Today, many different international economic integration structures have come to the agenda as a reflection of the understanding that the integrated economic interests of countries cannot be managed with the traditional nation-state reflex. The quest for countries to benefit from expanding international cooperation to realize their expectations and goals on different issues has strengthened economic cooperation approaches. Purpose: The liberalization of trade, the development of mutual relations between countries and the intensification of cultural interaction due to globalization have produced a limiting effect on international tensions. On the other hand, practices such as protective measures and customs restrictions for countries outside the economic integration, which strengthen the ground for cooperation, will turn into trade threats, leading countries that want to avoid this to cooperate. In this study, the D-8 Developing-8 economic cooperation forum and the success opportunities of this cooperation organization will be analyzed through the international economic integration approach and interdependence theory. Method: In line with the priority of the study, a literature review and content analysis were conducted based on the conceptual framework of the international economic integration approach and interdependence theory. The conceptual structure in the economic integration literature in the context of integration tendencies and the conceptual structure in the interdependence theory literature that the strengthening of relations on the basis of cooperation will produce a stabilizing effect in international relations were analyzed. Findings: When we look at the factors that lead countries to cooperate in the phenomenon of economic integration, it is seen that in addition to economic and commercial goals, countries tend to cooperate in this direction within the scope of the importance they attach to peace and stability. In this context, it is possible to see regional integration movements as a mechanism that brings countries closer to each other and strengthens the tendency to resolve conflicts peacefully on the basis of cooperation. In addition to the goals shared by the members of the D-8 cooperation, it will be seen that it is essential to provide some basic conditions to establish a successful economic integration structure. In this context, the economic levels of the member countries, the production and communication infrastructures of the members, the existence of a common exchange rate policy, the will to harmonize national economic policies, the existence of a mechanism to manage imbalances among the members, the complementary nature of the commercial products and services of the members, and the geographical proximity and common cultural background of the countries are listed as the factors that determine the success conditions of economic integration. Originality: Within the theoretical and conceptual framework of the study, it will be discussed in the last part of the study that the D-8 organization has some opportunities to contribute to international stability by producing successful results; however, this cooperation structure should be strengthened with some additional institutional or functional elements. In the context of this discussion, a prediction can be made on the success conditions of different international cooperation approaches based on the elements evaluated.
