Özet:

The aim of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of a basic first aid course given at the Faculty of Dentistry of a university. Methods: This study was quasi-experimental with a one-group pretest-posttest design. The population of the study consisted of students N67 who took the Basic First Aid elective course at the Faculty of Dentistry of a university in the 2023-2024 academic year. Socio-Demographic Form and Basic First Aid Knowledge Questionnaire developed by the researchers were used as data collection tools. Descriptive statistics number, percentage, mean, standard deviation and chi-square test in paired groups were used. Results: The mean age of the students participating in the study was 18.981.46 years, 56.7 were female and 65 of them 97 were single. In the post-training period, the correct response rates of the students to the questions related to first aid increased. The highest increases in the correct response rates were observed in the answers given to questions related to bleeding, loss of consciousness disorders, fractures, burns and sprains p0.05. Conclusion: As a result, students who receive first aid training will act more calmly and confidently in emergency situations and intervene correctly. Therefore, first aid training should be compulsory in the curricula of dental faculties.
