Özet:

This study, which examined the relationship between mothers parenting attitudes and their maternal gatekeeping behaviours, was conducted in a relational research design, one of the quantitative research methods. The sample of the study consisted of 211 mothers with preschool children 3-6 years old who volunteered to participate in the study. The findings showed that there was a negative relationship between maternal gatekeeping and democratic attitude, while there was a positive relationship between authoritarian and overprotective parenting attitudes. It was observed that democratic attitude differed only according to the age of the mother. Overprotective attitudes differed according to the childs school starting age, mother and fathers education level and employment status. It was also found that permissive attitude differed according to the age of the child starting school and fathers education level p0.05. As a result, a relationship was found between different parenting attitudes and maternal gatekeeping behaviours. Mothers level of education was found to be one of the most important predictors of parenting attitudes and gatekeeping behaviors.
