Özet:

Talking about East and West often leads to being part of a paradigm of Orientalism or Occidentalism, which is built on opposition and requires one to be chosen. This preference results in thoughts being imprisoned within the constructed structures. To be able to say a new word, it is necessary to transcend this paradigm and think beyond it. Nurettin Topçu, who has a very unique place in Turkish political life, is sometimes imprisoned in the paradigm of Orientalism and Occidentalism. While some authors consider Nurettin Topçu an Orientalist, others characterize him as an Occidentalist. Moreover, some go beyond Orientalism and Occidentalism and define him as an Islamist, nationalist, conservative, socialist, or anti-modernist. This study questions the possibility of going beyond the Orientalism and Occidentalism paradigms with the emphasis on originality reflected in Nurettin Topçus works and aims to offer an alternative reading proposal. In summary, it has been concluded that Nurettin Topçu has strongly demonstrated the possibility of going beyond the paradigm of Orientalism and Occidentalism with his philosophy of action, his understanding of revivalist religion, and the moral order he built on Anatolianism and Muslim Anatolian socialism.
